MISSION STATEMENT

To investigate, report on and supervise the conduct of convicted offenders of misdemeanor and criminal traffic offenses who have been placed on probation by the court system, in compliance with Florida statutes. Promoting the safety of the citizens of Charlotte County through effective supervision by trained professionals.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROBATION
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROBATION



   Domestic violence officers supervise offenders placed on probation for anywhere from six months to a year. The offenses range from simple battery, domestic battery, affray, violation of injunction for protection and an occasional cruelty to animals charge. The court may order a no contact with the victim in these cases, attend anger management or batterer's intervention classes and substance abuse evaluations and treatment as necessary. The officers have contact with treatment providers, victims and the offender to make sure the orders of the court are being followed.

   Officers supervise probationers charged with first and second degree misdemeanors ranging from DUI, petit theft, driving on a suspended license, to tag not assigned, and no valid license. Often, the court will order community service to be done, and the Judge may specify the County Work Program to give back to Charlotte County.

   Officers work with the offender to make sure they are attending counseling, and in some cases, a residential treatment facility. Regular testing for drugs and alcohol are conducted randomly to ensure compliance.

MENTAL HEALTH COURT PROBATION
MENTAL HEALTH COURT PROBATION



   Participation in Mental Health Court is voluntary, and allows a probationer to receive medication, counseling and intensive supervision while completing probation. Once a probationer is screened and deemed appropriate for MHC, an individual program is designed to assist the probationer to successfully complete probation while having the benefit of a team approach to deal with any mental health issues that arise. Some of the additional special conditions of MHC probation are no consumption of any drug not prescribed by the probationer's physician, no alcoholic beverages, random screens, and counseling, sometimes on a daily basis. The program is intense, and requires a committed effort by the probationer.

SUPERVISION COSTS

$50 is due no later than the fifth of each month, unless instructed by the probation officer.
