Judge Archie B. Hayward, Jr. is a native of Lee County, Florida. Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1984, he graduated with both his BA and JD degree from the University of Florida. He also has his AA degree from Edison Community College / FSW. Judge Hayward was appointed to the County Court for the 20th Judicial Circuit in January 2008 and elected to a six year term in 2010.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Hayward was employed with Florida Rural Legal Services as the managing attorney of the Senior Advocacy Program. Before coming on board with Florida Rural Legal Service, Judge Hayward had a solo general practice for 9 years with a focus on criminal defense law. From 1984 to 1989 he worked as an Assistant Public Defender in the 20th Judicial Circuit.
In addition to practicing law, Judge Hayward has taught as an adjunct paralegal instructor at Edison College /FSW where he currently serves as an advisory board member. Judge Hayward has also worked as a volunteer child support hearing officer for the County Court Administration office of the 20th Judicial Circuit.
Judge Hayward has a deep and abiding commitment to his community, and serves on the boards of various community agencies and non-profits. He is also an active member of his church and several community service organizations.
