I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1954 and grew up there and in Ocean City, New Jersey. In 1969 my family moved to Clearwater, Florida after the retirement of my father, Judge John Alessandroni. I graduated from Clearwater High School and obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida. After obtaining a Juris Doctorate law degree from Stetson College of Law in 1981, I began thirteen years of service as an Assistant State Attorney in Punta Gorda, Florida. After five years I was promoted to supervisor of the Charlotte County State Attorney's Office and remained in that position for the last eight years of my tenure. Upon entering private practice in 1995 I concentrated my work in criminal defense and family law. I was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Interstate Adult Offender Supervision Council. Also during this time I was appointed to serve as a part time Family Law Case Manager and part time Family Law Magistrate. In 2003 I became Charlotte County's first full time Magistrate and three years later was elected to serve as a Charlotte County Judge. I was re-elected without opposition in 2012 and 2018.

After taking the bench on January 2, 2007, I attended and graduated from the Florida Judicial College. In the ensuing years the Florida Supreme Court appointed me to several committees:

  • Chair of the Court Statistics and Workload Committee
  • Chair of the Judicial Needs Assessment Committee
  • Member of the Trial Court Performance and Accountability Commission
  • Member of the County Court Jurisdiction Workgroup
  • Member of the Clerk Maintenance System Technical and Functional Standards Subcommittee
  • Member of the Legislative Proviso Response Committee.
  • Member of the Judicial Liaison Team which assisted the 2017 Constitutional Revision Commission

As Chair of the Court Statistics and Workload Committee, I testified on November 14, 2017 before the Florida House of Representatives Judiciary Committee on the subject of criminal justice data.

I served the Conference of County Court Judges of Florida as a Member and Chair of the Specialty Courts Committee and a Member of the Technology Committee.

I served as Administrative Judge for Charlotte County from 2012-2018 and for many years have served as the judicial representative to the Charlotte County Court Technology Committee.

My committee assignments reflect my focus on the goals of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of Florida’s Judicial Branch so that more quality time can be devoted to the important cases that our co-equal third branch of government hears throughout the year.

For the last four decades I have devoted my legal career to the citizens of Charlotte County. I look forward to the many challenges that lie ahead, including the continued transition of our court system from paper files to electronic files and the important Uniform Case Reporting project that will produce better management tools for the Courts. I began my third six year judicial term on January 8, 2019. I will continue to express the gratitude that I feel for the freedom and opportunities that America has given to me and my family - my wife Karen and daughter Leah, who have been so supportive all the way. I am truly honored and humbled to continue to serve the Charlotte County community in the capacity of County Judge.
