JUDGE MARK STEINBECK earned his B.A. degree from Mercer University in 1970. He was commissioned out of ROTC as an Army officer and entered active duty in 1971. While on active duty, Judge Steinbeck attended law school on the Army's Funded Legal Education Program and received his Juris Doctor in 1976 from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.

Judge Steinbeck served on active duty as an Army JAG officer from 1976 until his retirement in 1991. His Army JAG career included assignments as a Trial Defense Counsel, a Trial Counsel, an Instructor at the U.S. Army JAG School, a Chief of Military Justice, an Officer in Charge of a branch legal office, a Deputy Chief of Administrative Law, HQ, U.S. Army Europe, and both a Litigation Attorney and Chief of Military Personnel Branch, Litigation Division, HQ, Department of the Army.

Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Steinbeck was in private practice as a civil litigation attorney with the Fort Myers, Florida offices of Peper, Martin, Jensen, Maichel and Hetlage, a Missouri law firm, and the Fort Myers offices of Roetzel & Andress, an Ohio law firm. In 2000, Judge Steinbeck was appointed to a position with the United States Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Florida, where he served until his appointment to the Circuit Court, 20th Judicial Circuit, in April of 2006.

Since his judicial appointment, Judge Steinbeck has presided over felony criminal and juvenile delinquency dockets. Judge Steinbeck currently presides over a felony criminal docket in Fort Myers, Florida.

Judge Steinbeck is married to Judge Margaret O. Steinbeck.
